What is a Squib?

A “squib” is slang for those amusing titled entries inserted at the end of some articles to fill out the space.

Their official name is “newsbreaks,” but we always called them squibs in our family, and “Between the Newsbreaks” would be a horrid and misleading title for this blog.

E.B. White was a master of the squib.
